Dua Lipa was born on 22nd August, 1995 in London, United Kingdom. After a stint as a fashion model and songwriter, she decided to sign with Warner Bros Records and release her debut album "Dua Lipa" in 2017. The album peaked at 3rd place in the U.K. Albums Chart and released eight singles including Be the One I.D.G.A.F and the U.K. top-ranked song New Rules which peaked at 6th in the United States. Lipa has been awarded the Brit Awards as a British female solo artist as well as British breakthrough act in 2018. Her album was certified platinum in the world. She is the daughter of Kosovo Albanian parents Anesa Rexha and Dukagjin Lipa. She is of Bosnian heritage by the maternal grandparents of her. She can trace her ancestry back to Peja which is a city located in Kosovo. The two grandparents of Lipa were both historians. She has two siblings, Rina Gjin and Gjin. Lipa was musically influenced by her father, who was the guitar player and lead singer of Oda, the Kosovan rock group Oda. The music played by her father was at home, including songs by David Bowie Bob Dylan Radiohead The Police Stereophonics. Lipa began singing when she was 5 years old. She began singing at her school, the Sylvia Young Theater School when she was just nine years young. Lipa performed Beautiful Christina Aguilera's Beautiful as well as If Ain't Got You by Alicia Keys. In 2014 Lipa signed a record deal in partnership with Warner Bros. Records. New Love was her debut single. New Love was released on 15 August 2015.
